Welcome back, Trojans! We have had a great start to the year.
🚸 Attention West Central Students and Parents: School Zone Safety Reminder from the Minnehaha Sheriff's Office! 🚸
As we welcome another school year, it's important to remember the critical driving behaviors that keep our kids safe in and around school zones. Here are a few key reminders for everyone:
1. School Zone Speed Limits:
• When the yellow flashing lights are on, you must slow down to 15 mph in the school zone.
• If there are no flashing lights, but you see a sign that says "When Children Are Present," this still means you must slow down to 15 mph whenever children are around.
2. Stopping at Intersections:
• Always come to a complete stop at intersections where stop signs are posted. This is not just for your safety but also for the safety of our students and community.
3. Pedestrian Crosswalks:
• If you see a pedestrian standing at a crosswalk, you must yield and allow them to cross safely. Pedestrian safety is a top priority!
4. Highway 38 & 2nd Street Crossing:
• A staff member will be stationed here to stop traffic, allowing students to cross safely. The staff member will be wearing a high-visibility vest and holding a stop sign. Please stop and yield to the staff member and the students.
At West Central Elementary in Hartford, please be extra cautious due to the ongoing construction in the area. Drive with heightened awareness to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
Remember: Failure to adhere to these rules—speeding in school zones, not coming to a full stop at stop signs, and failing to yield to pedestrians—could result in serious injury, death, citations, or even jail.
Let's work together to make this school year safe for everyone! It’s our responsibility as motorists to drive safely on the roads. And as always, wear your seatbelt and never use your phone while driving.
Stay safe, West Central! 🚦
The first day of school is Wednesday, August 21! All students should arrive by 8:45 for the start of school. Students should report to their first period for attendance. If you are a senior with an open first period, report to the auditorium.

Freshmen students AND parents attend.
Freshmen should bring their school computers.
Freshmen receive their schedules.
New students grades 10-12 are welcome to attend.
I also want you all to have the school supply list as you do your back to school shopping. High school students will need:
Texas Instruments TI-84 Calculator
4 Notebooks
pens & pencils
1 box of Kleenex for SRB
Earbuds or headphones
2 packs of index cards
1 pack of highlighters
3 packs of Post-It Notes
1 - 2 pocket folder
2 colored pens (not black)
1 pkg. crayons or colored pencils
In particular, I want to highlight the TI-84 Calculator. This is the preferred calculator for all math and science classes at West Central High School. While it is expensive, they are durable and should serve for all four years of high school (and beyond).
If you would like to contribute to the school beyond supplying your own child, we have a wish list (https://a.co/c0LzET0) with some basic supplies that defray the school's costs, or you can consider donating to our Project Closet (https://westcentral.revtrak.net/project-closet-donation/#/list), a fund we use to support our students in need.
We will see you soon!
